Car Insurance FAQ

Quick answers that match the packages above.

What is CDW?

CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) reduces your financial responsibility if the car is damaged in a collision. Instead of paying the full repair cost, you pay up to an excess (deductible) shown in each package card.

On this page: Basic includes TPI + CDW. Recommended and Premium reduce the excess further and may add extra protections.

What is FDW?

FDW (Full Damage Waiver) is a higher protection level that can reduce the excess to very low or even zero (depending on the vehicle/category). It’s usually the “peace of mind” option.

On the Premium packages above, you’ll notice the excess is minimal or €0 and extra items like glass are included where shown.

What’s typically excluded?

Exclusions depend on the rental agreement, but common ones include:

  • Off-road use and damages caused by improper use.
  • Damage to tires/rims and undercarriage (unless explicitly covered).
  • Negligence (e.g., leaving keys inside, ignoring warning lights, etc.).

Tip: Check the “legend” notes under each car category above — they reflect the most common exclusions for those packages.

Glass, mirrors, tires — covered?

It depends on the package. On the cards above you can see exactly what is included:

  • Glass/Mirrors: included on packages where the table shows a ✓.
  • Tires/Rims: commonly excluded unless stated otherwise.

Fast check: If you want glass coverage, choose a package that shows ✓ on “Glass/Mirrors”.

What is “excess” / deductible?

Excess is the maximum amount you may be responsible for in a covered damage incident. Higher coverage usually means a lower excess.

That’s why you’ll see different excess values in each card (e.g., Basic vs Recommended vs Premium).

What is Theft/Fire (TFI)?

TFI (Theft/Fire Insurance) adds protection for theft and fire-related incidents. In the tables above it appears as Fire/Theft and is included where you see a ✓.

Tip: If you want theft/fire included, pick a package that shows ✓ on “Fire/Theft”.

Can my credit card cover the insurance?

Some cards offer rental coverage, but terms vary a lot (vehicle types, maximum days, claims process, exclusions). Always check with your card provider before relying on it.

Practical advice: If you want “set-and-forget” protection, choose the package that matches your comfort level and excess.
